Better luck next time...

Well it's offical, i'm not pregnant. You would think that after years of this i would get used to it, but each time it's really depressing. We really thought it would work this time around. I guess it's hard not to get your hopes up when you get science and the medical experts involved.

We'll be starting this same process all over again and have another month of waiting to see if this time it will work. I'm not sure how much more of this we can take. Yesterday we breifly talked about adoption again and what each other thought about it.

I did it.....

The results are in.......I finished the 5K in a whopping 39 mins. I know, that sounds like you could walk 3.5 miles faster then that. But i finished faster then my last 2, so that's all the matters. I'm also happy to say that there were people who finished behind me! I had a great time; I just wish I would have dressed a little better. I forgot to take the cold wind into consideration when I put my shorts on. =( and it was cold that morning!! I'm really glad Maggie was there to do it with me and to keep me going. I can't wait to do another one.

5K

I found another 5K to do this weekend. The Seton Hospital of Williamson County is having it's pre-opening celebrations and it's starting with a 5K and 1K family run. I did the 5 mile Turkey Trot and the Jingle Bell 5K last year and have been wanting to do one again. I'm really trying to build up my stamina so I can actually run the whole time instead of walk/jog.

On a side note, we had our first Stake Women's basketball game last night and it was so fun. No where will you find both teams cheering each time the other team scored or everyone running over to help the person who just fell down. Our team only have 5people, so we had to play the entire game. I truly thought I was going to have a heart attack in the first 3 mins of play!!! Again, I really need to work on my stamina. The good news is, even though I haven't played a real game in 10 years, I was still the high scorer with 14 points!

January..

I can't believe this month is already coming to an end! '08 is already starting off so quickly. Not to many things have changed; We still can't seem to get our acts together and work out, still working in the same jobs and still waiting to start our family.

The 15th we went back to the dr. to start round 2 of the treatments. I took the clomid again for 5 days and felt the side effects right away. (boy do i love the heat flashes, night sweats and moodiness.) This past weekend i tested everyday and anxiously awaited a positive surge so we could schedule our IUI. Finally got the surge on Sunday and scheduled the IUI for Monday morning. The bad part is, we have to have chris' 'sample' to the lab by 8:00am, but the sample can't be more then 60 minutes old. We live far enough away that it can take an hour to get there with traffic; so we had to do some creative planning. We didn't want to mess this up, so we had the morning planned out to a 'T'. That night felt like Christmas eve, knowing that tomorrow could be the day we finally get pregnant.

That morning went off without a hitch. I even made it to the lab in record time and was 30 mins early. I came back a few hours later and the dr. did the IUI. The whole process only took 15 mins. and was surprisingly painless. The after effects are what get you. The "less then 5% of women have moderate to severe cramping" apparently applies to me. So I spent the afternoon at home on the couch watching tv. Good news is this time everything looked good, the dr. said we timed it just right and now all we have to do is wait 2 weeks. Sounds pretty easy, but when you're as impatient as I am, 2 weeks is a LONG time. I'll keep everyone posted as I know if it worked.

December..

December is usually my favorite time of year. I love Christmas and everything that comes with it. This year was especially fun with my nephews being a little older and them understanding who Santa is. We decorated the outside of our house with lots and lots of lights. We ended up using 35 boxes of little lights on the trees and 12 strands of C9 around the house. We had so many lights that we had to add an extra breaker and run a new outlet out front. We also bought a set of 3 trees that play 5 Christmas songs and the lights that "dance" to the music. It looked totally awesome!!! To bad the pictures don't do it justice.

It was also fun getting to see Lizzy again. She came home for 2 weeks and it's been a long time since I've seen her. We had a couple of movie nights at our house with the new TV and had a good time. BTW... the new TV is also totally awesome. We got a Samsung 50in LCD with 1020htz technology. It makes the movies look like you're right there. It's amazing how great the graphics look. I always love spending time with the family and it's great when we can get all of us in one place.

Chris and I both got iPhones for Christmas and we love them. We have spent many hours playing with all the fun features. Chris also learned a valuable lesson: it turns out that you can break the screen by dropping your phone on concrete. It's really easy to tell our phones apart now.

This month was also supposed to be the month we officially start our infertility treatments. Who knew it was going to be such a specifically timed process? With ultrasounds on day 2 and 12, taking clomid on day 3 until day 7, testing for LH surges on days 13-18 and the having the done IUI within 24 hrs of the surge. It turns out that it only takes 1 staff member giving you incomplete information to mess it all up. When we finally got the positive Lh surge, we followed the directions given to us and called the office to make the appt for the IUI. Well we called to late and we missed our little window. The staff member forgot a very important detail about the hours the lab is open on the weekends. So, we would have to wait until next month and do it all over again. Talk about an emotional roller coaster!!! That all happened between Christmas and New Year's, so that put a damper on our festive spirit.

I'm back.....

It's been a long time since i've written in my blog; i never was very good at keeping a journal. I lot has happened since then so i guess i better catch everyone up.

November: Finally got into the Infertility doctor (after 11 weeks of waiting). Found out we only have a 1% chance of getting pregnant on our own. How's that for good odds! That would also explain why in the 5 years we've been trying, we've only been pregnant twice. It turns out we have what's called unexplained infertility. I have endometriosies and that causes the infertility, but they can't pinpoint how or why. After numerous tests and poking and prodding we found out that I do ovulate every month and all of chris' tests came back fine. Which adds to the frustration, because they can't just fix the problem and move on.

Luckily we have a great dr. who wants to take action right away. Next month she wants us to start taking Clomid (encourages you to release multiple eggs during ovulation) and do an IUI (intra-uterine insemination). Doing this should bring our chances from 1% to 20% of getting pregnant each month. We'll do this 3 times and then look at other options. Unfortunately insurance doesn't cover any of this; so we have to pay out of pocket for all this. At the end of the day, if this helps us finally start our family, then i don't care how much it costs.
